Wine and Marriage – Bridal Shower Party

First of all I love wine. There I said it! I prefer red, a really good red. What’s even better is a couple years ago when my best friend got engaged and as her Matron of Honor I was in charge of her bridal shower. She loves wine too (and mustaches? Lol). So I was inspired to create a wine and mustache infused bridal shower for her at my house.

I love planning a party, especially for those dearest to me. So I planned and planned and came up with some great ideas that I could pull off while working full time, two kids and an awesome hubby, and school.

First are the favors. I’m lucky to have an IKEA right down the road from my work. Although it is a dangerous place for me to enter as I start wanting to redecorate everything! But I went for wine glasses because for me I needed at least 30 and their price was the best. They were also nice glasses and not cheap. Her favorite color is purple, which is mine too so I have a lot of purple colored craft stuff. We decided to color the bottom of the wine glasses with purple glitter paint. They turned out great! We also made hers and mine with an extra touch of glitter by the base of the goblet. It was a bit time consuming but while drinking wine it seemed to go faster. Next, I love making hair ties with the fold over elastic. So I ordered some with mustaches and I had a whole bunch of dark purple. Perfect! We don’t want our hair getting in our wine, ha-ha! The final touch was a cork wine glass charm stamped with a mustache. Let me tell you cutting corks seems like it would be so easy but it is not. But thankful for Pinterest I found steaming them first made it a lot easier.

Here is the final favor!

For the next big thing was food and desserts. I went with simple finger foods that went well with wine. I made caprese bites (my favorite), Prosciutto and cantaloupe (popular in Italy), a couple warms dips like spin/art, and Greek pinwheel wraps. I also made a light pasta salad and these awesome baked brie bites in phyllo dough with cherry preserves.

I am actually getting so hungry writing this; I love finger foods and appetizers! And of course with wine a great cheese and grape board. For this I went an extra step and had a cutting board made as a wedding gift for them with the soon-to-be newlyweds names and date on it. Love it!

Desserts I got lucky. I’m am not the best at dessert and already making all that food I looked for an outsider to step in. Lucky for us we have a friend who makes incredible sweet treats! Yes! And she doesn’t break the bank, even more sweet! Lori can make custom treats so I gave her some of my ideas and we shared back and forth through Pinterest for ideas. The end result was delicious and beautiful.

First there were mustache sugar cookies. Then came the cake pops, everyone loves cake pops! She made them purple with glitter and little grape ones and they were so good! We went with chocolate because its goes so good with wine! The last was my favorite, mini cupcakes!! Sounds plain but no- Lori stepped it up and one kind was chocolate cabernet wine infused and the other ones were Irish car bombs (Guinness chocolate cake with Irish cream frosting). Oh My Goodness!!!! YUMMY!!     Yeah I stashed a couple cupcakes away for after the party.

So far we are trucking along great! Next are some of the decorations I used. First I was able to move my furniture around to open up the whole area. I used my dining table for the favors, all the wine and the cheese board. The big island was for all the food and treats! I had a bookcase I covered with a plastic table cloth in purple for a photo booth and had props for pictures (of course mustaches included!). I covered the table with brown packing paper and wrote on it what everything was. Simple. On my IKEA run I found some big water bottles and made some infused fruit water. I had everyone bring a bottle of wine so there was no worry about running out of the most important item, ha! I added only a couple games which one was how many corks in the vase and another was a print out of what is in your purse (that one ended up pretty fun!). We also did some silly telephone game that proved to be hilarious. Party gifts were Bath and Body Works Paris inspired lotions and soaps as they were getting married in Vegas at the Paris Resort.

The last thing was I order a simple cake topper from Etsy for the wedding cake which was a wire in the word ‘love’. I used it as the center piece but wanted to add something homemade. So I took two corks and made a bride and groom. How cute!
