Finding Happiness at Work

After much study of job satisfaction and performance (I so love school!!) it is noted repeatedly there is such a weak correlation, so what is the connection with the two? For one is your self-esteem which has more effect on satisfaction and performance but another factor is happiness…at work. What if we focused more on what made us happy at work versus job satisfaction or performance? I believe if we find the things at work and about your work that makes you happy this could have a positive impact on your overall feel of work. The way people feel about work is an ever changing component of life and there could be a positive factor of looking into happiness rather than all the other stuff. Think about when you feel happy…are you more productive, motivated, and able to get along with others better? I am. I feel creative and ready to seize the day when I am happy and also when those around me find happiness as well. This doesn’t mean we are all going to be smiles and fun all the time but it does suggest we all can find something about what we do that makes us happy. Focus on it and expand it. The honest truth is you have to want to find it. You can find happiness in many ways at work such as making a deal, balancing a schedule, getting through a huge stack of paperwork! Having a ‘good morning’ from coworkers, sharing a story or a joke, or the best- getting praise or recognition for doing a good job. Taking pride in your work reflects your happiness so go all out; take control of your happiness at work. If you are having trouble finding it, talk with someone about it, a coworker or a manager.
